I think Vercingetorix will be a major player in the G1 Jebel-Hatta and the
G1 Dubai Duty Free come March. Races at 1800 to 2000 meters seems to be
where he's at his best, so the Jebel-Hatta & Duty Free both at 1800 meters
should suit him right down to the ground. He looked like he was getting a
little gassed in the final 100/150 meters of this race. But he had enough
left to seal the deal and keep his unbeaten record in tact. In fairness to
Vercingetorix, he was coming into this race off an 8-1/2 month layoff
having last raced on June 1, 2013 when he won the G1 Daily News 2000 in
South Africa. He should come on markedly for this run the next time we see
him at Meydan, IMO.
Vercingetorix was the Mike De Kock trained horse I was really excited about
seeing racing in Dubai and he didn't disappoint. Looked like he may have
gotten a little winded inside the final 100/125 meters, but he still had
enough left in the tank to get the win and keep his unbeaten record in
tact. You have to figure Vercingetorix should only come on for this run
too, because in fairness he came into this race coming off an 8-1/2 month
layoff, having last raced when he won the G1 Daily News 2000 at Greyville
in South Africa back on June 1, 2013. Likely to be one of De Kock's top
entries in this year's G1 Dubai Duty Free field, along with Mushreq. I'm
not 100% certain about this, but I don't believe De Kock has The Apache or
Igugu in Dubai this year?
