Toast Of New York (Jamie Spencer) - UAE Derby Sponsored By The Saeed & Mohammed Al Naboodah Group

In some ways this may have been the most impressive performance of the day. Toast of New York came into the UAE Derby completely unexposed. Last season in Great Britain he raced 3 times in 2 maiden stakes and 1 novice stakes and had won 2 out of those 3 starts. Yet he still managed to demolish this field with relative ease, and for the record, this son of Thewayyouare is Triple Crown nominated. But no concrete plans have been made for Toast Of New York yet according to trainer Jamie Osborne. Giovanni Boldinni ran like a horse who needed this run and could've used a prep race for the UAE Derby, and I just don't get the sense that Long John will stay beyond a mile effectively enough to ever win any big races. This was Long John's second start going beyond a mile, the other being the G1 Cox Plate in Australia back in November, and in both cases he was back peddling and being shuffled back through the field at about the 300 or 400 meter mark.
