George Ryder Stakes G1 3U OPEN ($1,007,000), 1500m 1:28.29 | |
Race Synopsis: The Japanese runner Real Impact showed good pace from his wide barrier (12) and worked hard before crossing to the lead at the 1000m. He settled briefly before picking up the tempo again nearing the home turn. He then fought back extremely well when challenged to hold on for a narrow but impressive victory. Criterion settled in fifth place on the rails from barrier five, following a strong pace. He continued along the rails on turning for home, challenged strongly at the 200m and then fought well for second. Kermadec was badly away and was a clear last in the early stages before recovering to race in tenth place on the rails. He improved between runners at the 250m and came with a strong finish for a very good third. He is a lightly raced three-year-old with a bright future. Royal Descent was midfield on the rails to the home turn and kept making ground along the rails in the straight for (2.2 lengths) fourth. Shooting To Win settled in seventh place, one off the rails. He briefly looked a threat at the 300m and then kept fighting on for (2.3 lengths) fifth. Burbero was a handy most of the way and held on quite well for a good (2.6 lengths) sixth despite the significant rise in class. Joint second favourite Cosmic Endeavour led in the early stages, eased after being pressured in front but dropped out from second at the home turn to finish last, beaten almost six and a half lengths. |
