| Race Synopsis: Lady Jivago followed up her promising debut win at Wyong on 22 January with a strong late-closing win here. She settled in fifth place, with cover, being suited by a strong early tempo. She switched out at the 300m, ran on well to hit the lead at the 100m and then drew clear to score by a length and a quarter. Ideal Express was eased from his outside barrier (11) and was last in the early stages. He commenced a wide run from the 600m, moved up quickly to be in a challenging position at the 200m and then fought gamely for a very good second. Serenade went to the front as expected but was pressured in the early stages resulting in the first 600m being covered in a quick 34.85. She got to a clear lead at the 300m but her early efforts told and she weakened in the closing stages to finish a sound third. The favourite Odyssey Moon showed early pace before easing to race in third place. He moved up on straightening, challenged at the 200m but then just battled on for (2.1 lengths) fourth. Darts Away ran on nicely from ninth at the home turn to finish an encouraging (2.8 lengths) fifth. | |
