Zoulu Chief was friendless in the betting for the two-year-old maiden, having been well held on his debut a couple of weeks ago. But the chestnut had the 6f race under control from some way out and won by almost five lengths under Marco Ghiani. His trainer, former opera singer Heather Main, who sometimes sings to her horses, had also won with 125/1 chance Island Bandit at Newbury a couple of years ago.
