The Tab Everest OPEN ($14,549,000), 1200m 1:07.32
Race Synopsis: The WFA weight advantage of 3.5kg for Yes Yes Yes, the only three-year-old in the race, may have tipped the scales to his advantage but he had to run a new track record of 1.07.32 to beat a fabulous field of world class sprinters here. He was third last when they settled, improving one spot past the 800m. From the 600m he kept improving, yet turning in was still well back and looking to go wide. Into the straight he kept winding up, went after the leader from the 300m, into second at the 200m but had not caught the pacemaker. Still finding, he collared the leader at the 100m and had too much momentum to the line by a half length. Santa Ana Lane was second last (rails) passing the 800m, hugged the fence in third last turning in then pulled wide for a run inside the 400m and was bumped heavily in the process. Once balanced, he stormed home, taking ground off the winner but too late for a gallant second. Also a top class run from Trekking who was last at the 600m, pulled widest into the straight and kept up a strong run all the way to the line for third. Nature Strip maintained a hot pace into the straight and was travelling boldly by two lengths at the 200m but was collared by the winner at the 100m then hung on gamely for fourth. Pierata was locked up on the fence in the straight and dove through, one off the fence for fifth while Classique Legend was very unlucky, not seeing daylight until late then flying home for sixth.
