Joe Root was hard done by,that's for sure but the stuff up came from the video umpire. The hotspot is on the ball from where it hit the pitch. The bat DID NOT hit the pad & that can plainly be seen. What looked like the hot spot on the pad is in fact the rotation on the ball that didn't hit the bat. There endeth the sermon!

    Not out.

Complete bullshit!! Nothing on the hotspot, sniko could have been anything! I'm with England on this one! Whatever happened to "benefit of the doubt goes to the batsman."

From listening to ABC grandstand it appeared out, as they claimed there was something on snicko. Watching this for the first time, it was never out. Unlucky.

There is not enough resolution. The ball moves too far between frames, so when Snicko shows a sound exactly where since the last frame did it occur? The technology exists to have many more frames per second. Why is it not being used?

I think he was out. There is a flash of a hot spot, there is a tremor on snicko, but there is always always a gap between the bat and pad. If there was no hot spot I'd say it was dubious but the fact there is a flash AND a snick indicates to me that it definitely hit the bat even if it was just a kiss. You can clearly tell in the front view that hot spot could not have come from the bat hitting the pad.

Hopefully Root gets fined for shaking his head all the way off the field. The more we see this sort of dissent, the closer we get to the type of disrespect football referees endure 20 times a match.

I don't really get the big deal last ashes series khawaja got an absolute shocking DRS. If there is a sound on snicko and his pads are not in contact with the bat HE'S OUT

It is perhaps not taken into account that the speed of light - at which we see the picture - is much faster than the speed of sound. The picture is virtually instantaneous whereas the sound has in this case got to travel about five or six feet to reach the stump microphone, even such a small difference means the sound recorded will very slightly lag behind the picture on things recorded at this speed. I personally think it was the bat brushing the knee roll on pad on his front leg that caused the noise on snicko.

Pay back for all those shocking decisions in England

I don't think it was out but I think there's enough doubt to go with the Impire's decision. Bat nowhere near anything, I have no idea what made that noise.
