R5 FLEMINGTON | 29 October 2016 |
Coolmore Stud Stakes G1 3 OPEN ($502,500), 1200m 1:08.98 | |
Race Synopsis: After being twice-placed at Group One level in his first four starts, Flying Artie broke through for his first at the elite level with an impressive performance here. He was ridden with cover, in last place in the centre of the course before taking a split at the 200m. He dashed to the front at the 50m and then drew clear for a very good win. Astern went to the Grandstand side, racing just behind the leader there (Russian Revolution). He challenged at the 200m and then fought really well for second, just finding the winner too good. Star Turn went to the front, in the centre of the track, steadied the early tempo, got a break at the 300m and then battled on gamely for third, narrowly missing second placing in a photo. Russian Revolution led on the Grandstand side until nearing the 300m and held on well for (2.2 lengths) fourth, his only defeat in five runs to date. The favourite Extreme Choice tracked close to the leaders in the centre of the track, put in his bid at the 300m and briefly looked dangerous but then kept fighting on for (2.3 lengths) fifth in a sound but slightly disappointing effort considering his previous high class form. |
