on the turf wise dan would have ran him down

Saw nothing in the BC Mile there to change my mind that Toronado would've blitzed the field there - would've been coming off a lightning pace and picked off Wise Dan with ease in my opinion there. Olympic Glory; runs as expected... a very perplexing decision from the Hannon yard I think

I think Toronado would've ripped the BC Mile apart if he'd be running. Without him, still can't see past Wise Dan here. Big fan of Olympic Glory, but despite the noises being made from the stable, I can't see how he's going to overcome the short break/long trip/unfavourable going. Makes me laugh that Frankel still gets a mention - he'll have made in excess of £15mil for his owners this year in stud fees - wonder why they retired him so early? :-D Shame though, best horse of my lifetime. By far.

As for this, I remember reading that Wise Dan covered 5 lengths more than the eventual winner. He'd have won with a better draw no doubt by about 3 lengths. I wouldn't be put off by this at all. He's still the class horse, he'll reverse the form on Silver Max with a trip even remotely resembling fair and the only Euro threat only ran 2 weeks ago and prefers soft ground anyway in Olympic Glory. Wise Dan will win the BC mile I hope.

babied to death? He won G1's at 2, 3 and 4 from sprint distances to middle distances beating horses with top class Group 1 winning from across 4 continents and 8 different countries. He also won on ground from good to firm, all the way to heavy. He beat about 6 horses officially rated in the top 10 in the world. That isn't babied to death. I saw you trying to put down Treve the other day. Obviously, you feel threatened by any top animal that doesn't hail from your own back yard. Sad really.

Who? Babied-to-death Frankel? Ah, yes I know who you're talking about.

@tjjlm444 comfortable on the track, It's the same with Carlton House, his ran on turf plenty of times, comes to Australia, doesn't feel comfortable, what he come last? yet people say he wasn't comfortable yet Wise Dan can't get the same? hypocrite or? LOL oh and you know my life do you? Coming from the same yank who thought he was tough that time saying you "yankies would teach us aussie guys a lesson" yet you yanks rape women and kids? so how are you boys going to take us real men on? lolidiot.

@tjjlm444 Actually yes I do. people who follow horse racing in America who was at the race. LOL you stupid yank, I was saying people are saying Wise Dan isn't a good horse because he lost, I purely said: Secretariat and Man o War lost yet they're both considered all time greats, I know you're a bit slow dude but it simply means just because you lose doesn't mean you should be considered less of a horse. I complimented Silver Max on the win, can't you read? I said Wise Dan wwasn't feeling

you know people who were there that said he didn't feel comfortable on the track?you cant be serious with a comment like that and your not comparing this horse to sec or man o war are you?this had nothing to do with surface remember dan won on this surface twice before and this was silver max 1st time. he got beat is all no need for excuses silver max ran a great race is all.im pretty sure you didn't know anyone who was there your just trying to save face for a stupid comment earlier.

He's a tired horse, leave him alone.

I find it amusing that people immediately jump to the conclusion that it must have been the surface switch that caused Wise Dan to finish a solid 2nd to Silver Max. There is no evidence to suggest that Wise Dan is less competitive on polytrack, even with the added distance. Prior to today's race, Wise Dan was 5 for 7 on synthetic surfaces. His two most recent attempts on polytrack resulted in wins at 1 1/8 miles. Both races were graded stakes (a G2 and G3), which took place at Keeneland.

  • Jeffrey J. Says:

    7/10/2013 7:16:44 AM

In his most recent effort, he broke Keeneland's polytrack record by going 9 furlongs in 1:46:77. He also received the highest Beyer Speed Figure (117) ever assigned for a synthetic surface. Thus, I am not convinced that the surface switch was the primary variable responsible for his loss. Of course, it very well could have been a factor in his performance, but we will never know if it undermined or assisted today's effort.

Prior to this race, I figured Wise Dan was a vulnerable favorite because he was was facing a full field of proven competitors, had an unfavorable post position, and was possibly tired from his previous start. Furthermore, the pace scenario looked less than ideal. However, it was still his race to win or lose, especially since the race was not held under handicap conditions and Wise Dan has a proven affinity for the course.

Wise dan only lost because it was moved onto sloppy polytrack and moved to 1 1/16 mile. So they ran the Shadwell Turf Mile on dirt at a mile and a 16. Doesn't seem right

Wise Dan is a champion,he will bounce back in the Breeders Cup Mile

@GBeret83 He wasn't feeling good going onto the synthetic track. I know people who were there who said that he didn't feel comfortable on the track and he was agitated, I don't know why he wasn't scratched if he wasn't feeling right. But Silver Max ran well but it shouldn't make him less of a horse, he lost, so what? Secretariat lost, Man O War lost, it happens. His still the clear favourite to win the BC's mile over any horse and I don't see why a lose should make him less of a horse.

Frankel was great, but he retired at four, Wise Dan is six.

It shouldn't really matter if Wise Dan wins or loses...He has nothing more to prove; he won nine straight races. Certainly doesn't change my opinion on the talented horse. I still think he has a chance at winning the Breeders' Cup mile again.
