R7 RANDWICK12 April 2014
T J Smith Stakes G1 3U OPEN ($2,569,750), 1200m 1:12.14
Race Synopsis: Lankan Rupee has now won his last six races in a row – the latest three at Group One level. He began brilliantly from his inside barrier (1) and went immediately to the lead. He travelled well at a strong tempo (first 600m 34.94), went wide (looking for better going) nearing the home turn and was never threatened in the straight to score impressively by two lengths. He had not previously raced on Slow or Heavy going but handled yesterday’s Heavy9 well - he is a class act. Rebel Dane was steadied by Glen Boss and travelled nicely in ninth spot on the rails. He stuck to the inside rounding the home turn, got to third at the 100m and fought gamely for a good second. Buffering was a little slow to move from his inside barrier (2) but quickly recovered to race in second place to the turn. He held that position to the 100m and kept fighting on gamely in the conditions to just miss second in a photo. Tiger Tees was fifth on the inside to the home turn and kept battling on to take a sound three and a half lengths fourth. See The World was well back in 11th place (wide-out) coming to the 600m. He put in a good run from the 300m, coming home nicely, with a late run to take fifth. Gordon Lord Byron was just past midfield, between runners, to the home turn. He took a little while to wind-up in the straight but kept making ground for sixth, beaten three and three quarter lengths.

Not many lead all the way in group 1's and win.

Best sprinter in the world right now. Doesn't usually lead, but he still had that killer turn of foot to put the race away. Outstanding.
