| Race Synopsis: Having her first run since her impressive victory in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic (RL, 1200m) at the Gold Coast on 13 January, Sunlight scored a very smart win at her first start in NSW. She began well and after being second early on, settled in third spot, tracking a solid tempo. She challenged at the 200m and after quite a battle, got the upper hand to score by a neck, further enhancing her prospects for the upcoming Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m). The favourite Estijaab was quickly away and went straight to the front but was pressured in the early stages (by Neutrality) before getting to an advantage at the 300m only to then be hotly challenged by the eventual winner who impressed in the courageous manner that she fought to the line after working for most of the race. Godolphin’s filly Gongs, who was resuming, raced back in fourth place in the small five-horse field until into the straight and steadily made ground to take a distant third, her first defeat in three starts. Neutrality was third early on from his outside barrier (5), made a quick bid for the lead and then raced a bit keenly at a good tempo when he could not cross the leader. He then weakened from the 200m to finish (10.2 lengths) fourth. | |
