I was given the great granddaughter of Bold Forbes...Busted Flat Gal. She is magnificent, a real princess. She can't race because of an injury, but she is truly magnificent.

amazing!!~ I am the grand daughter of Esteban Rodriguez-Tizol and was fortunate enough to witness the Belmont and the Kentucky Derby...still have the goggles from the Belmont!!! he was an amazing horse and JR Cordero was an insuperable jockey!!!! Should have been a TRIPLE CROWN WINNER but ...injured and all, BF still finished strong and came in 3rd!

Very true. Honest Pleasure was a heavy favorite in the Derby. At 2/5 odds, Honest Pleasure was a shorter priced favorite than Secretariat, Affirmed, Seattle Slew, and Spectacular Bid. Honest Pleasure had already won 6 grade 1 races before the Derby. He did win the Travers by 4 in 2:00 and 1 and finished a huge 2nd beaten a head to Forego in the Marlboro. However, won only 2 of his final 13 races.

Yep, Bold finish with a cut in one of his legs, they run at a suicide tempo, and that cost him the race i believed was FoolishPleasure who battle with him, Foolish Pleasure finish last.

No, sorry, I don't have that race. I will definitely look for it though, hopefully I can find it somewhere. Take care.

Angel gave two masterful rides in the Derby and Belmont, but you have to wonder about the Preakness pre-race strategy and the ride itself: a 4 furlong blowout of 45 and change before the race, then fractions of 45 and 1:09 flat for a route race....between that and Ronnie Franklin's horrible ride on Bid in 79, there might have been 4 triple Crown winners in a row. But that's horse racing!

Elocutionist won, but not too easy. As far I remember, by a length. Bo' third a neck behind the second.
There's comment about Bo' that he bleed a lot, because the friction.

I doubt Honest Pleasure could ran as fast as Bo. You would like to see the Preakness (I can not find the video). Bo' at maximun speed. Honest surely drop out.

I don't see the '76 Preakness on YouTube. That was a masochistic race. Honest Pleasure and Bold Forbes got into a speed duel and wore each other out, allowing Elocutionist to pick up the pieces and win easily.

Major upset. Honest Pleasure had been dominant as a 2-year-old and early in '76, compared to Secretariat on ABC by Leroy Jolley and Howard Cosell when he won the Flamingo by 11 lengths. Honest Pleasure went off at 1/20 odds in those preps. He won the Blue Grass but jockey Braulio Baeza practically strangled him, trying to get him to rate in preparation for the Derby. Honest Pleasure was never the same after that. He loved to run free on the lead.

Well said. AC paced him well. He used the whip very effectively too. Bold Forbes was a terrific horse. Take care.
