Was that little nudge at 3:36 really worth a DQ? Agree that it was a shocker from RG on commentary. Only three horses in the finish who happened to be three of the best known horses in training and he still messed it up.
Birds Nest first victory came in 1976 which if he beat Comedy would have been the year your probably looking for. It wont be easy to find im affraid very few copies around but if you do stumble accross 1 id be very interested as to from where as its from a time im very keen on collecting / purchasing and if i stumble across any footage myself will let you know.
Can anyone tell me which year Bird's Nest beat Comedy of Errors in the Fighting 5th? My dad's after it after our trusty VHS copy bit the dust. He's mourning this race so much!

I'm afraid you're wrong in thinking Bird's Nest never beat Night Nurse. He beat him when winning this race for the first time in 1976, ending Night Nurse's 10 race winning sequence in the process. It was Monksfield who was the one top class hurdler from his era who Bird's Nest ran against but never beat.
I still think Bird's Nest was the best hurdler I've ever seen when he had a good day and his record in Grade 1/2 races outside of the Champion Hurdle is possibly the best there's ever been. Great download and if anyone has any of his 3 wins in both the the Fighting Fifth and Bula Hurdle (Ironically, over the Champion Hudle course) I'd be very interested.

A great race from the archives! Raleigh Gilbert sadly gets the commentary all wrong at the end! - Pollardstown was only third! Race was awarded to Sea Pigeon who was the second one to pass the post.... and Gilbert had uttered the words "Sea Pigeon can't win it" moments earlier! First past the post was Bird's Nest.

Thanks for the upload, it is really good quality considering its age. Cant say how much I love watching races with these great hurdlers running against each other, great days.
