God, is this the one when Francome got hung in effigy afterwards? Huge sums were gambled on him to win. I can see it both ways - the horse wasn't straightforward, a bit lazy - and he was a great tactician/pace jockey who liked to come off the pace. But there was a lot of grumbling afterwards, as there is when the money's done. The fact that the winner was a 50-1 shocker (if memory serves) suggests Francome was justified in thinking he'd win. But.....
