Bit before my racing time but a great finish - Wouldn't have liked to have loot on it though. Briery Fox or Fire & Rain today, but a Church Island / Baby Run battle with a fast finisher nabbing them wouldn't surprise anyone.
Diamond Edge was a 13 y.o. at the time going for a third win in the race. He had run only once in the 2 years before this race. Perhaps the greatest steeplechase of modern times.

Even though the Queen Mum's horse won - sorry I am a republican !
This race just sums up what was so great about National Hunt Racing, The Whitbread Gold Cup and chasing at Sandown.
One of the most perfect races to hook any novice sports fan !
