Deep Idol went on to win the valuable Dennys Gold Medal Chase at Leopardstown's 1988 Boxing Day meeting, a race in which Carvill's Hill started odds-on and fell. Knockelly Castle, 5th here, was the subject of a big Irish gamble on the day.

He did indeed, and was lying third at the time. The runner up here Deep Idol finished 4th in it incidentally.

Didn't river Ceriog contest the Champion Hurdle the year after and fall at the last.
