Really pleased to see the admirable Thistle Bird land her first Group 1. The only way I could be happier would be if I were lucky enough to own her. Well done her and all those who work with her.

Thistle Bird is such an honest filly. Rarely will ever see a sub-par run out of her. A lot of money went down on Ambivalent in this race, but to be fair, she'd already had a pretty tough 2014 campaign coming into this race having already ran in the G1 Dubai Sheema Classic, G2 Middleton Stakes, & G1 Coronation Cup since the end of March. Add to that asking her to carry top weight of 136 pounds, quite a lot of weight for a filly or mare, and it basically sealed her fate. I thought Venus De Milo might be the one in this race coming off that solid win in the G3 Munster Oaks Stakes at Cork. But once she made the lead and you saw Joseph O'Brien pull out the whip, you could tell George Baker was cruising on Thistle Bird with a lot of filly left under him.
