| Race Synopsis: A barnstorming finish by Smokin’ Joey denied Platelet back-to-back victories in The Goodwood. Smokin’ Joey settled down fifth last three horses off the fence between runners. He was taken to the extreme outside on cornering and was a long way out of his ground in the straight but he picked up extremely well late on to deny the game Platelet a well deserved victory, coming late on her outside to score by half a length. Platelet was trapped off the track from her wide barrier (15) racing in tenth position. She was nursed around the turn and held together into the race. She quickened smartly to hit the front inside the 200m looking the certain winner until Smokin’ Joey come with his late run on her outside to score. She deserved the victory, a very good effort. Riziz raced on the back of the speed. He stayed to the inside and hit the front on cornering. He battled gamely but could not match the finishing speed of the first two home, a sound effort. Gregers followed Riziz in the run. She was eased across heels at the top of the straight and fished on well to finish fourth. | |
