Perhaps. Like IHA, I just read that Union Rags was retired due to an injury. What is going on with the thoroughbreds? Is it the breeding or conditioning? What?

paynter or bodiemeister for smith would be a hard choice...baffert says paynter was better in beginning of year...that would be a tough race....those 2 on the lead...wow....

Would have loved to see what Atigun does with a New York rider. Leparoux moved early, and going wide on the Belmont turns cost him a lot more than the 2 lengths he was beaten by.

i would definitely love to see paynter again at the BCC in November along with urags, unstppbl u, atigun, and bodemstr if all horses are healthy it would be a great line-up for the sport to see i wish iha could have healed for the BCC... i wish IHA could have healed to race in BCC or again anytime if it were possible and cleared by vets that it would not compromise him any great way

i never said there was anything impressive about rags win, but it could have been impressive if rags had been 2 or 3 wide at the top of the stretch and had a clear path to the finish, the race would have been over long before the final 100yrds

no arguement. UR in clear space and he pushes thru to win by at least 2. By the way, i will def say, valiant move to push threw the rail. most horses and jocks think twice about it.

barrett- look at paynter's schedule. he raced a week before the derby, he raced preakness day, and then he raced at the belmont, not to mention the SA derby, he has 5 races total, all this year. considering it basically mirrors IHA's schedule, i was most impressed by him. loser way? i dunno what you mean by that, jocks do what they have to. although i do believe mike was more worried about atigun. UR was the fav anyway, whats impressive about the fav winning? spc in a slow time.

  • rsbarrett4991 Says:

YES, he ran his heart out

  • rsbarrett4991 Says:

that would depend on when he go's to the right if it had been late in the stretch then yup rags wudda run out of dirt, but that also would have been shitty cuz rags was clearly waiting to get clear and was the superior horse, at the finish he was still gaining speed in a full sprint, had rags been anywhere else but on the rail in the strech mikes decisions would have been insignificant cuz rags would have been 2 or 3 lengths ahead of him at the finish

ok... DGMWrong, actually paynter impessed me "a little" just becuz he didn't fade to terribly, but that seriously had to have been one of, if not, the slowest bstakes in history, he should have been able to close that out if he were a top notch race horse... on the other hand urags would have put that race away a decade ago had he been 2 or 3 wide into the stretch with no horses in front of him

  • rsbarrett4991 Says:

    14/06/2012 8:46:22 AM

r u insane? yur most impressed w/paynter? he had his way all the way thru the race (:23.7, :49, :14, :38.8 fractions) a pace that snails would consider slow and he still couldn't close the deal w/a clear run the entire way, he's a dissapointment not to finish. how the hell r u impressed w/that!!?? and mike was never truly on the rail and had he been what a loser way to win by blocking the better horse. urags has now won 3, G1 races and is 5 of seven, this horse is a f'ing stud. what r u thnkng?

  • psychojoker131 Says:

    14/06/2012 5:50:20 AM

Sure mike left the rail open, but in the end don't you guys want the horse to win fair and square? In the stretch it's gonna come down to every stride, every step, every bob of the head! and in the case union rags had a little more in him. Paynter had a great run,no shit. And union rags found it in him to get a head in front at the wire :)

  • swanningaround Says:

He would have been had for interference, if he lost.

  • digits2skyharbor Says:

Most impressed with Paynter and Street Life. Mike Smith really botched that up, he even admitted to it after words, saying no vet jock should ever allow a horse to pass him on the rail. I like Union Rags, but I would be surprised if he wins any major races going forward.

Yeah, Romans has done said Dullahan is most likely headed back to the grass in his next start...no new news to me. They interviewed him yesterday here on my local news.
