Longines Queen Elizabeth Stks G1 3U OPEN ($4,114,500), 2000m 2:07.22
Race Synopsis: The seemingly invincible Winx, who has not been defeated in a race since May 2015, made it 17 races in succession with another brilliant performance in taking out this Group One race in effortless fashion. She settled well in fifth place, one off the rails behind a steady tempo on the Slow 7 track before Hugh Bowman brought her up (wide) at the 600m. She swept to the front at the 200m and then raced away to score brilliantly, yet again stamping herself as a true champion of the Australian turf. Dual Group One winner Hartnell had a good trip in third place on the rails before moving up at the 600m. He easily took the lead coming to the home turn and then battled gamely for a very good second, despite being overshadowed again by Winx. The $151 outsider Sense Of Occasion raced back in seventh place until nearing the home turn and ran on well in the closing stages to take a good third, again showing his liking for affected going in a career-best performance in this high class race.
